The JSU-122 (Istrebitelnaja Samokhodnaya Ustanovka 122) was a Soviet self-propelled gun / tank destroyer used during the second World War. The JSU-122 (like the JSU-152) was based on the hull of the JS-2 Heavy tank and was introduced in December 1943 being designed for multiple roles as an assault gun, a self-propelled howitzer and a tank destroyer.

The primary application of the JSU-122 in rural battlefields was as a long-range tank destroyer, while the JSU-152 tended more towards the assault gun role. Conversley for urban combat the JSU-122 was utilized as an assault gun, but with a lower efficiency in comparison to the ISU-152 as the longer barrel of the 121.92-mm cannon sometimes made maneuvering difficult.

Use of the JSU-122 as a self-propelled howitzer was rare, although its maximum range of fire exceeded 14 km. Usually the JSU-122 delivered indirect fire to the enemy during rapid advances when support from towed artillery was not available.

The JSU-122S tank Destroyer was a variant of the JSU-122 Tank Destroyer, having an improved 122mm gun, increased fire rate and a muzzle brake to reduce recoil.

A total of 675 JSU-122S were produced before the end of the war. Many surviving JSU-122S were rebuilt as rocket launchers, very large calibre gun chassis or supply vehicles. The small number of JSU-122S which kept their original armament were withdrawn from service at the beginning of 1960. Some disarmed vehicles were transferred to civil organizations, to be used as emergency vehicles on Soviet railways or as tracked transport in Arctic areas of the Soviet Union.
